The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has renewed its demand for the Federal Government to impose a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara over worsening insecurity.
Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, the 28th of August, 2025, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that such a step would not imply removing sitting governors but would introduce extraordinary security measures to restore order.
According to him, the situation in Zamfara has reached alarming levels.

“We have information that bandits have taken over large swathes of Zamfara, extracting taxes from citizens, abducting people, and slaughtering them.
“If you could declare a state of emergency in Rivers State where no lives were lost, what stops you from doing the same in Zamfara, where Nigerians are being killed daily?” he asked.
“Abdullahi also addressed recent remarks by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who urged citizens to acquire survival and self-defense skills. While acknowledging the point, he emphasized that responsibility still lies with the government.
“By saying people should learn to defend themselves, he was admitting that what we have in place is inadequate. I agree completely with that,” Abdullahi stated.
