Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has charged the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to rebuild public confidence in the police, maintain impartiality and strengthen security coordination across the state.
Adeleke gave the charge on Monday when Zungura visited him at the Government House following his assumption of office as the new police commissioner.
In a statement shared on his X handle, the governor pledged the state government’s support for the police command “without any strings attached,” while stressing that the force must maintain professionalism, fairness and integrity in carrying out its duties.
Adeleke said the meeting came at an important time as Osun continues efforts to restore peace, promote reconciliation and strengthen stability after the recent governorship election.
He said he welcomed Zungura’s commitment to impartial policing, peace and stability, but outlined five areas he expected the new commissioner to address.
The governor first called on the commissioner to restore public trust by ensuring that police officers perform their duties professionally, fairly and in the interest of residents.
He also urged the command to deepen its partnership with the state government, with the relationship guided by mutual respect, the rule of law and impartiality.
Adeleke further asked Zungura to examine the command’s internal operations and deal with units accused of being compromised or viewed as politically partisan.

The governor also called for increased participation of the police command in meetings of the State Security Council, saying this would enhance cooperation among security agencies and strengthen Osun’s security framework.
He equally demanded the release of individuals he described as political detainees and called for an end to arrests he regarded as politically motivated.
According to Adeleke, addressing the concerns would support the consolidation of peace, restore public confidence in security institutions and advance reconciliation across the state.
“Osun deserves peace. Osun deserves justice. Osun deserves a police command that enjoys the confidence of all citizens, regardless of political affiliation,” the governor said.
Adeleke also urged politicians and other stakeholders to set aside their differences and support efforts to heal divisions created within the state.
“Let us work together to heal our state, rebuild trust and give peace a permanent home in Osun,” Adeleke added.
