Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, will formally join a new political party before December 13 following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, announced on Tuesday.
Adeleke had earlier confirmed that he submitted his resignation to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, on November 4, 2025.
Speaking during a political programme on Rave FM in Osogbo, Alimi attributed the governor’s exit to prolonged internal crises within the PDP, especially at the national level.
“The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party. The governor has done this and has written his resignation letter for quite a long time,” he said.
He urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting Adeleke, describing the resignation as long overdue.
According to him, the decision became urgent as the state’s governorship election approaches and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination window closes on December 15.
“The governor is happy with the reaction so far, and everybody understands that had it not been the crisis or division at the national level, which will play a crucial role in the nomination of the governor, he wouldn’t have defected,” Alimi added.
He dismissed claims that the opposition All Progressives Congress welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, insisting the APC had hoped the governor would remain in the PDP to enable legal challenges against his candidacy.

“So, the APC in Osun thought Adeleke would be so gullible to the extent of contesting in the PDP so as to use the problem in the national to file a case against him. But Adeleke is smarter. Now, they know every step they take, Adeleke is always ahead of them,” he said.
On Adeleke’s next political destination, Alimi said discussions were ongoing and clarity would emerge before December 13.
“He has resigned now, but let’s say on or before December 12 or 13, everybody would have known that one,” he stated.
Alimi reiterated that Adeleke’s resignation would have been unnecessary had the PDP not been hit by internal fractures at the national level.
