A’Ibom Police Nab Man With Pistol, Live Cartridge

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has detained a 38-year-old man for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm, threat to life and possession of suspected illicit substances.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Tuesday.

According to the police spokesperson, the arrest followed a report by a resident of Ikot Akpa Ntuen Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area, who raised an alarm over an alleged threat of violence by the suspect.

John said operatives of the command swiftly mobilised to the area and apprehended the suspect.

“During a search, the suspect was found in possession of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge and substances suspected to be illicit drugs,” she said.

The police spokesperson stated that the suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the firearm and the extent of his activities.

She added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

DSP John reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for crimes involving firearms and other acts that threaten public safety, assuring residents of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

She also urged members of the public to continue to support the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
