Aisha Yesufu Backs Alex Otti’s Warning Against Election Rigging in Nigeria

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has thrown her weight behind Abia State Governor Alex Otti’s recent warning to those planning to manipulate the upcoming elections, urging Nigerians to adopt a similar zero-tolerance stance toward electoral malpractice.

Reacting to a statement attributed to Governor Otti — where he reportedly said, “Anybody planning to rig election should first write their will” — Yesufu asserted that such a mindset reflects the seriousness required to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

In a post shared via her X handle on Friday, the co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement emphasized that electoral offenders should no longer be treated with leniency, describing election riggers as enemies of national progress.

“I have repeatedly said anyone that rigs election should be treated as a terrorist,” Yesufu declared, stressing that election manipulation undermines the people’s will and poses a greater threat to Nigeria’s unity than violent extremism.

Her statement has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians echoing calls for electoral accountability and stronger penalties for vote rigging.

Governor Otti’s comment, which has drawn both support and criticism, comes amid growing concerns about electoral integrity ahead of future polls, particularly in light of Nigeria’s history of vote-buying and ballot manipulation.

Yesufu’s endorsement of the governor’s stance underscores a broader demand for reform-minded leadership and a national commitment to credible elections.
