Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has faulted President Bola Tinubu for his silence over Kanu’s continued detention despite several court rulings ordering his release.
In a post shared on X on Friday, the 17th of October, 2025, Ejimakor expressed concern that the federal government has yet to comply with multiple judgments delivered in favour of his client since 2022.
He recalled that in January 2022, a court ordered the Federal Government to pay Kanu N1 billion and tender an apology to him. In October 2022, another court nullified his detention and awarded N500 million in damages, while in October 2023, a separate ruling overturned the proscription of IPOB.
The lawyer wondered why the government has chosen to ignore these decisions, describing Kanu’s prolonged detention as a violation of the rule of law.

He urged President Tinubu to respect the court orders and release the IPOB leader, asking pointedly if Kanu had now become his personal prisoner.
He wrote: “In Jan. 2022, a Court ordered the Federal govt to pay Mazi Nnamdi Kanu N1b & apologize to him; In Oct. 2022, a Court nullified his detention & awarded him N500m; In Oct. 2023, a court ruled against proscription of #IPOB. Dear Pres. Tinubu, has MNK become your personal prisoner?”
