Alleged Certificate Forgery: UNN Tampering With Nnaji’s Academic Records, Spokesman Alleges

Robert Ngwu, spokesperson for the Minister of Science and Technology, Uchenna Nnaji, has accused the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), of tampering with the minister’s academic records.

Ngwu made the allegation on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, October 7, while reacting to claims that Nnaji forged his university certificate in 2023 after his appointment as minister.

He explained that the issue stemmed from the university’s alleged refusal to release the minister’s academic transcript despite several formal requests.

“He didn’t ask the institution not to touch his academic records. He said they should not tamper or manipulate because there was information about what we saw online, where things from a personal student’s file were released online. That means somebody is deliberately doing that,” Ngwu said.

The spokesperson alleged that political interests within the university were influencing the handling of Nnaji’s case.

“You have an Acting VC who is a card-carrying member of the PDP. Under normal circumstances, he is not supposed to be a VC,” he claimed.

Ngwu added that the minister approached the Federal High Court to seek protection over the matter.

“There was an injunction granted by the court that the minister sought protection by the court, warning that the school should stop tampering with his academic files because there was information that his files had been lodged in the Vice Chancellor’s office for the last six months,” he said.

According to him, the court also ordered the university to release Nnaji’s transcript, which he applied and paid for in May, but has yet to receive.
