Amaechi Declares Readiness For 2027, Says He Has Solutions To Nigeria’s Challenges

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed confidence in his ability to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.

Speaking during an appearance on The Morning Brief on Friday, a programme on Channels Television, Amaechi stated that his track record in governance and infrastructure development has equipped him with the experience needed to lead the country.

“I don’t care who else is running. I’m running because I’m a Nigerian candidate. I understand the problems, and I can solve them,” he said.

The former governor of Rivers State pointed to key projects executed during his tenure in public office, including railway development and improvements in port infrastructure, as evidence of his competence.

He also maintained that he made notable strides in addressing insecurity while serving in government.

Amaechi, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress, criticised the administration of Bola Tinubu, arguing that economic conditions have deteriorated under the current leadership.

According to him, Nigerians are grappling with rising hardship, with increasing costs of fuel, transportation, and basic living expenses placing significant pressure on citizens.

“People are struggling daily. The cost of living has gone up across the board, and many can barely afford essentials,” he said, expressing dissatisfaction with the state of the economy.

He further alleged that there are efforts to weaken opposition parties, calling for the independence of key democratic institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission and the judiciary.

Amaechi also expressed confidence in the opposition’s chances in the next election cycle, insisting that a credible contest would pose a serious challenge to the ruling party.

He is among several high-profile figures positioning themselves within the ADC ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Other notable names in the broader opposition space include Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rauf Aregbesola.

Meanwhile, the electoral body has scheduled January 16, 2027, for the presidential election, with party primaries set to hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026, as political parties prepare to nominate their candidates.
