Former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has formally registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress, completing his enrollment at ward 8 in Ubima on Friday morning, March 6, 2026.
The registration drew supporters who gathered to welcome him, and Amaechi used the occasion to call for peace.
He urged his followers to avoid violence and emphasized that political differences should not result in conflict or actions that could endanger lives.
“We must remain peaceful. No one should resort to violence, and our community gatherings must stay calm,” he said.
The development coincided with reports of an early morning fire that damaged a section of the party office in Ubima, creating anxiety among residents.

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the blaze, and investigations are expected to determine its origin.
Amaechi commended security agencies for their response, specifically acknowledging the professionalism of the commissioner of police and the Department of State Services.
He called on investigators to identify and prosecute those responsible for the fire, stressing the importance of preventing similar incidents.
The political move marks a significant realignment for the former governor as he joins the opposition ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The African Democratic Congress has yet to issue an official statement regarding his membership or potential role within the party.
