AMVCA 2026 Voting Ends Ahead Of May 9 Awards Night

Organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) have officially closed voting for the 12th edition of the ceremony, with winners scheduled to be announced on May 9.

In a message shared on Sunday, Africa Magic appreciated viewers for their participation in supporting nominees across the audience voting categories.

“And that’s a wrap! Voting for #AMVCA12 is officially closed. Thank you for showing up, showing love, and backing your favourites all the way,” the organisers said.

They further added, “Now we wait to see who takes home the wins on May 9th.”

The organisers confirmed that the awards ceremony will be broadcast live across Africa Magic channels.

According to the schedule, the red carpet will begin at 4:00 p.m. WAT, followed by the main event at 7:00 p.m. WAT.

This year’s edition features a total of 32 categories, comprising 18 jury-decided awards, 11 categories determined by audience votes, and three special recognitions, including the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards.

Veteran actress Joke Silva serves as Head Judge for the 2026 edition, taking over from filmmaker Femi Odugbemi.

Two new categories were also introduced this year: Best Indigenous Language Film (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language Film (Central Africa), aimed at broadening the awards’ continental representation.

The nominee list includes prominent figures such as Lateef Adedimeji, Gabriel Afolayan, Funke Akindele, Sola Sobowale, and Bisola Aiyeola.

With voting now concluded, attention has shifted to the awards night, where winners across film, television, and digital content categories will be unveiled.
