Supporters of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, under the banner of the Obidient Movement, have thrown their weight behind former National Inland Waterways Authority Managing Director, George Moghalu, ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
The group’s National Coordinator, Dr Yunusa Tanko, announced the decision during a press conference at Moghalu’s campaign office in Awka on Friday, October 17.
He warned that any attempt to manipulate the polls would be met with firm resistance.
Tanko, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, said the movement had completed the inauguration of polling unit commanders across all 5,720 polling units in the state, ensuring a wide presence ahead of the election.
“Let it be stated unequivocally that the Obidient family is fully on ground in every part of Anambra State. We have completed the inauguration of our polling unit commanders across all polling units in the state,” he said.
He explained that the group had introduced “robust mechanisms and digital technologies” to prevent vote manipulation, adding that Nigerians would no longer tolerate rigged elections.

“This generation of Nigerians, this generation of Obidients, will not allow the old order of electoral malpractice to thrive again,” he warned.
Tanko reaffirmed that the movement was united behind Moghalu’s candidacy and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral, while urging security agencies to guarantee the safety of voters.
“We call on INEC to remain impartial and professional, and we warn that any compromise of the process will be resisted through lawful and democratic means,” he said.
He also revealed that trained volunteers, women, and youth teams within the movement would monitor every stage of the election, from accreditation to result transmission.
“A new Anambra is possible, and together, we will make it happen,” he declared.
The November 8 poll will bring an end to Governor Charles Soludo’s first term under the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
Major parties, including the Labour Party, the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party, and APGA, are expected to fiercely contest control of Anambra, a state long regarded as Peter Obi’s political base.
