Anambra First Lady Visits Orphanage, Urges Better Care For Vulnerable Children

The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has urged greater compassion, improved welfare, and sustained acts of kindness toward underprivileged children across Nigeria, stressing the need to give them a sense of belonging and hope for the future.

She made the appeal during a visit to several motherless babies’ homes as part of activities marking “Mothering Day”, describing children as the foundation on which society is built.

Her remarks were contained in a press statement issued on Monday.

Mothering Day is a traditional Christian observance held on the fourth Sunday of Lent, on March 15, 2026, and is dedicated to honouring mothers and mother churches through special services, family gatherings, and the exchange of flowers.

During her visit, Soludo, who also founded the Non-Governmental Organisation Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, stressed that children—particularly those in orphanages—require consistent love, care, compassion, and affection.

She emphasised that kindness remains one of the most valuable gifts anyone can offer, noting that the joy it brings is immeasurable and represents the essence of a fulfilling celebration.

She said, “Yesterday, ‘Mothering Sunday’ went beyond celebration; it became a moment of pure compassion and love.

Sharing laughter, warmth, and hope with my children at the orphanage reminded us of the true essence of motherhood, caring for the vulnerable and putting smiles on faces that need it the most.

“Because sometimes, the greatest gift we can give is kindness, and the joy it brings is priceless. This is exactly what it means for me to have a fulfilled celebration. Have a happy and prosperous week ahead.”

The governor’s wife also commended mothers for their resilience, sacrifices, and enduring love in raising children and shaping the moral values of society.

She further noted that mothers play a vital role not only in child upbringing but also in promoting peace, unity, and development within communities.
