Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have rallied behind Governor Dapo Abiodun, endorsing him as their preferred candidate for the 2027 Senate election.
The endorsement was announced on Monday, April 20, during a large stakeholders’ meeting held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, where party leaders and grassroots representatives gathered from across the district.
The meeting drew a wide spectrum of party figures, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, current and former lawmakers at both state and national levels, local government chairmen, councillors from all wards, and youth and women leaders.
According to participants, the decision reflected a collective position among party stakeholders who believe the governor is best suited to represent Ogun East at the National Assembly.
Speaking at the gathering, former senator Lekan Mustapha said the endorsement was based on confidence in Abiodun’s leadership capacity and track record.
He disclosed that party leaders would formally convey their decision to the governor and take further steps to support his candidacy.
“Party leaders would formally communicate the endorsement to the governor, including a commitment to purchase his nomination forms for the 2027 election.

“We will put a body together to deliver this message to our Governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” he said.
Also addressing the meeting, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, described the endorsement as a unified decision by stakeholders across the district.
“This endorsement is historic and unanimous. It reflects the collective belief that Prince Dapo Abiodun is the right person for the position,” he said.
Members of the House of Representatives and local government leaders also voiced support for the governor’s senatorial bid, pointing to his administration’s impact on governance, stability, and development within the state.
Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Afolabi Odulate, urged the governor to accept the call to represent the district, noting that the endorsement reflected the will of the people.
The meeting reportedly had full representation from all nine local governments in Ogun East, including all 103 councillors, ward executives, and key grassroots mobilisers.
Several prominent APC party leaders were also in attendance, reinforcing the breadth of support for the governor’s proposed transition to the Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
