The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four persons in connection with separate cases of alleged murder and child abuse following public outcry and viral videos circulating on social media.
The arrests were made after residents provided information that assisted investigators in tracking down the suspects, according to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
In a statement issued on Monday, Ikenga praised members of the public for their vigilance and cooperation, noting that their timely reports continue to aid law enforcement agencies in tackling crime across the state.
One of the suspects, identified as 33-year-old Ifechukwu Okechukwu, is currently being investigated over the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend.
The case came to light after reports emerged regarding the exhumation of a corpse in Nkpor. Following the information received from concerned residents, police operatives moved swiftly and arrested the suspect.
Ikenga disclosed that detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the matter and commenced a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
In a separate case, three other suspects were arrested over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu.
