The newly-appointed Federal Commissioner representing Anambra State at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Dr. Nkechi Nnoli, has pledged to implement major reforms aimed at strengthening the commission’s operations and ensuring fairness in federal representation.
Nnoli made the commitment on Wednesday during a familiarisation visit to the FCC’s Anambra State office in Awka, describing the current situation as “no longer business as usual.” She said the reforms align with directives from the Chairman of the commission, Ayo Omidiran, who has called on staff to work towards repositioning the agency.
The commissioner emphasised that the FCC under the current leadership is determined to address past lapses and achieve the objectives of the commission. “Everyone must sit up and get ready to work. Change has come to stay. We are ready to make things right. What past administrations could not achieve, we are determined to achieve,” she said.
She highlighted plans to reform the operations of the Anambra office to make it more effective in carrying out its constitutional mandate. Nnoli also raised concerns over the office’s current location, describing it as “unsuitable” due to isolation, poor security, and inadequate electricity supply. She recommended relocating the office to the State Secretariat for better efficiency.

The commissioner stressed the need for public sensitisation on the role of the FCC, noting that many Nigerians misunderstand its responsibilities. She explained that the federal character principle ensures fairness, unity, and proper representation across the country.
“President Bola Tinubu described the Federal Character Commission as ‘the conscience of the nation’. The commission has the mandate to ensure equity and fairness in federal employment and development projects,” Nnoli said.
She assured that she and the staff of the commission in Anambra State would work diligently to guarantee that the state receives its fair share of federal opportunities and benefits.
