APC Faces Backlash Over Dead General, Supreme Court Justice In Party List

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River has sparked controversy after its published list of party stakeholders included the name of a deceased retired general and a serving Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The list, circulated on Saturday, February 14, 2026, invited stakeholders from the state’s 18 local government areas to a pre‑congress briefing with Governor Bassey Otu, scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Calabar International Convention Centre by 3 p.m.

Among the names were Major General Edward Unimna (rtd), who passed away in March 2025, and Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, a sitting Supreme Court justice.

The inclusion of a deceased officer highlights errors in the party’s stakeholder compilation, while the listing of a serving justice raises questions about judicial neutrality.

Other notable figures appeared on the list, including Chief Magistrate David Edogi and various academics and public figures.

However, the late general and the Supreme Court justice dominated public attention following the circulation of the document.

The APC in Cross River has not issued any public clarification or correction regarding the list.
