ARISE News Bars Anthony Kila From Its Programmes Over Academic Credentials Allegations

ARISE News has barred political analyst Anthony Kila from its platforms following investigations by PREMIUM TIMES that questioned his professorial title and academic qualifications.

The network announced the decision on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, saying Kila had failed to respond to allegations formally presented to him on October 3, despite requesting more time.

ARISE News said it was unaware of the controversy when Kila appeared on its programmes as a freelance political analyst, adding that the developments had made his continued appearances untenable.

The decision followed PREMIUM TIMES investigations published on October 3 and 10. The reports examined Kila’s claim to professorial status, including his identification as a Jean Monnet Professor of Strategy and Development, and raised questions about his claimed undergraduate, master’s and doctoral qualifications.

Kila has defended his professorial status and said he was compiling documents relating to his academic and professional record.

The controversy has also affected his role at Michael and Cecilia Ibru University in Delta State, where he served as pro-chancellor. The institution asked him to step aside pending an investigation into his professorial status.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has also launched an investigation into the allegations, according to reports.

ARISE News said the ban took immediate effect. The allegations remain subject to investigation.
