The Bauchi State Government has commenced the local production of exercise books and chalks for distribution to schools across the state as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning.
The initiative, launched on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Education Resource Centre in Bauchi, is aimed at reducing shortages of basic learning materials and cutting dependence on supplies from outside the state.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Muhammed Rimin-Zayam, who led the inspection of the facility, said the government was committed to supporting schools with essential resources to promote academic excellence.
He explained that the project also involves the rebranding of existing textbooks to give them a fresher appearance for classroom use.

Rimin-Zayam added that the initiative would not only enhance the quality of education but also create economic opportunities by engaging local producers in the state.
Governor Bala Mohammed had earlier approved the programme as part of his administration’s ongoing education reforms, which include school rehabilitation, teacher recruitment, and provision of modern instructional materials.
The locally produced books and chalks will be distributed to public schools in the coming months, with the Ministry of Education expected to oversee allocation and usage.
