The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old man, Gambo Hassan, also known as “Anahaka,” over alleged involvement in kidnapping, rape, armed robbery and possession of offensive weapons in Bauchi metropolis.
The arrest was disclosed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement on Sunday.
Habib said Hassan was apprehended by operatives of the ‘B’ Division, GRA, Bauchi, at about 8:45 pm on September 11, 2026, during a routine patrol along Adamu Jumba Road.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly disguised himself as a commercial motorcycle, popularly called Okada, rider to target unsuspecting passengers, particularly women, during evening hours.
At the time of his arrest, Hassan was allegedly found with a sharp knife and was riding a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number BAU 150G. He was also said to be wearing a black face mask and a face cap.
The police spokesman said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation and subsequently assisted detectives in identifying some of his alleged victims.
Habib said investigators initially identified 15 women within Bauchi metropolis who were allegedly victims of the suspect’s activities, but the number later increased to 35.

Following the development, detectives obtained a search warrant and searched the suspect’s residence, where several items suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered.
The recovered items included 15 assorted mobile phones, six ladies’ wristwatches, six native caps, five bundles of women’s wrappers, three women’s hijabs, three power banks and N425,435 cash.
Kenyan and Turkish currency notes were also reportedly recovered from the residence.
The police said the suspect and the recovered exhibits had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the detectives for their vigilance and professionalism, while urging residents, particularly anyone who may have been a victim, to provide useful information to assist the investigation.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities and improving security across Bauchi State.
