Former Bayelsa East Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and governance reforms.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the businessman and media executive said his decision was driven by faith in the president’s vision and confidence in the administration’s policy direction.
He wrote: “I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause, he is driven by results. And today, I can boldly say to you that he is on the right track.”
Murray-Bruce praised the president’s financial expertise and reform agenda, describing the ongoing economic adjustments as “the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity.”
He commended the deregulation of the fuel market, restructuring of the Central Bank, and the renewed global confidence in Nigeria’s economy.
“For the first time in our nation’s history, we have a President who truly understands finance, who sees the economy not as a political slogan, but as a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe,” he said.
The former senator, popularly known as the “Common Sense Senator,” added that his defection was not politically motivated but guided by conviction.

“I am joining the All Progressives Congress, not for politics, but for progress,” he stated, expressing optimism that under Tinubu’s leadership, “Nigeria will witness phenomenal growth.”
Murray-Bruce, who represented Bayelsa East in the 8th National Assembly (2015–2019) on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he believes Tinubu’s leadership will usher in sustained national development.
His switch to the ruling APC follows a growing wave of political realignment, including the recent resignations of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah from the PDP.
The APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, is expected to formally receive the former senator at a welcome ceremony later this week in Abuja.
