Security agencies in Katsina have stepped up operations ahead of the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, with large-scale deployments across Daura and other key areas in the state.
The Nigeria Police Force, Katsina Command, working in collaboration with sister agencies and under the coordination of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 14, has sent personnel across the state. This was confirmed by Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu, who also extended condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina, and Nigerians at large.
In a statement released by Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Command honoured Buhari for his impact on national development and progress.
Separately, the Katsina Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has deployed 2,807 officers to support the security structure during the burial proceedings.
State Commandant Aminu Datti shared the update during a meeting with senior officials at the command headquarters on Monday, the 14th of July, 2025.He noted that NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Abubakar Audi, had directed the deployment in response to Buhari’s death, calling for full protection of lives and assets throughout the ceremonies.
“The deployment includes intensive surveillance, gathering of credible intelligence, community engagement, and synergy with other security agencies,” Datti said.

NSCDC operatives have been strategically posted to Daura, Umar Musa Yar’adua International Airport, and the palaces of the Emir of Katsina and Emir of Daura, among other sensitive spots.
Officers both in uniform and undercover have been assigned across all 34 local government areas to secure public assets at all levels.
“Personnel deployed must remain professional and work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free burial,” Datti reiterated.
With top dignitaries expected to attend the event, authorities say the scale of security operations is to maintain public order and ensure safety statewide.
