CAF Opens Bids For 2028, 2032, 2036 AFCON Hosting Rights

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially launched the bidding process for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), inviting its 54 member associations to compete for the hosting rights.

CAF announced the decision on Friday, July 3, 2026, saying the selection process will be guided by a new bidding framework designed to ensure transparency, fairness and credibility.

The football body said the framework, developed with the support of independent technical, financial and legal advisers, outlines the criteria for evaluating bids and selecting the successful host nation or nations.

CAF described AFCON as Africa’s biggest sporting event, attracting more than 3.2 billion television viewers and over six billion digital views worldwide.

While the bidding process has opened, CAF has yet to announce submission deadlines or release the technical requirements for prospective hosts.

The governing body also confirmed that the 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

The invitation marks the start of the contest to stage three future editions of Africa’s premier football tournament.
