A Federal High Court in Ibadan has invalidated the Peoples Democratic Party’s national convention held on November 15, 2025, in the Oyo State capital.
In a judgement delivered on Friday, January 30, Justice Uche Agomoh ruled that the National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki, along with other officials elected at the convention, lacks legal standing to operate as the party’s national leadership.
The court barred them from parading themselves as “national officers” of the PDP.
Justice Agomoh further held that the Caretaker Committee headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the “only recognised National Working Committee of the PDP” until a valid national convention is properly convened.
The decision comes against the backdrop of a prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, which has persisted since 2023.

Despite unresolved internal disputes, a faction loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed went ahead to organise an elective national convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan.
That convention produced a new leadership, with former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), emerging as national chairman, a move intended to position the party for the 2027 general elections.
However, the court’s ruling has now reopened questions about the legitimacy of that process, casting fresh doubt on the PDP’s leadership arrangement and its level of preparedness for the next electoral cycle.
Party members and legal observers are closely watching for further developments to determine how the judgement will affect the PDP’s internal governance and future plans.
