The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized a large shipment of codeine syrup worth N3.39 billion, officials shared this on Tuesday, the 17th of March, 2026.
Mr Isa Sulaiman, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said the operation was conducted in partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Customs Area Controller, Mr Emmanuel Oshoba, revealed that the interception occurred on Sunday, the 15th of March, 2026, following a swift enforcement response.
“The consignment, comprising 3,398 cartons, was meticulously concealed inside household utensils. Its duty value is estimated at N3.39 billion,” Oshoba stated.
He said the development highlights the command’s resolve to enforce the policies and strategic direction of the service.

“This operation reflects our intelligence-led approach and commitment to making Apapa Port extremely hostile to smugglers and drug traffickers,” he said.
Oshoba explained that the breakthrough came shortly after a visit by the Comptroller-General of the NCS, Mr Bashir Adeniyi, who had issued a strong warning to criminal networks at the port.
He commended the NDLEA for its role, noting that the agency’s support was key to the success of the mission.
“The continued partnership with the NDLEA demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated enforcement in tackling illicit drug trafficking,” Oshoba added.
