Fani-Kayode Blasts Momodu Over Tinubu Dictatorship Claims

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has criticised media personality and African Democratic Congress chieftain, Dele Momodu, over his recent remarks comparing President Bola Tinubu to former military ruler, Sani Abacha.

Recall that Momodu, during a Sunday interview, on Politics Today, faulted the Tinubu administration, describing the president’s leadership approach as dictatorial, a comment that has stirred reactions within political circles.

Reacting in a post on X on Monday, the 16th of March, 2026, Fani-Kayode said the comparison was unfair and disrespectful to the president and members of the administration.

“I love Dele and I have immense respect for him, but he sounded drained, tired, and broken, and spoke little sense in that interview,” he said.

“He should consider taking a break from politics and commentary to regain perspective and refresh his thinking.”

He added that Momodu’s remarks were uncharitable, stating that they disrespected not just the president but also the vice president, ministers, lawmakers, and newly appointed ambassadors, while also questioning the judgement of Nigerians.

Fani-Kayode also shifted focus to the ADC, urging the party to concentrate on building a credible opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections instead of attacking the ruling government.

He argued that the party currently lacks the structure and capacity to compete, likening it to “a poorly patched inflatable boat” unable to navigate Nigeria’s political terrain.

“The ADC cannot even be described as a sinking ship but rather as a badly patched up inflatable plastic life boat that has not even managed to find its bearing or leave the harbour.

“It has no engine, no sails, no oars, no captain, no crew, no navigational equipment, no muscle, no firepower, no war chest, no destination and worse of all it is made of rubber and not steel.

“It cannot possibly survive the rough seas and harsh winds of Nigerian politics because it lacks gravitas, focus, character, intelligence, discipline and strength,” he said.

He concluded that the ADC must build focus, discipline, and capacity to be regarded as a serious political contender in future elections.
