Zulum Condemns Maiduguri Explosion, Assures Residents Security

Governor Babagana Zulum has denounced the Monday evening, 16th of March, 2026, explosion in parts of Maiduguri, calling it a cruel and cowardly act.

The governor, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, expressed grief over the incident, noting that innocent residents were affected during the Ramadan period.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum urged residents to stay alert while calling on security agencies to tighten surveillance, especially around mosques and crowded areas.

“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast,” Zulum said.

“The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric and inhumane,” he added.

He linked the attack to ongoing military offensives against insurgents in the Sambisa Forest and other hideouts in the region.

Zulum assured residents that security forces remain in control and are taking steps to prevent further incidents.

He asked residents to remain calm, continue their daily activities, and support security efforts.
The governor also called on the public to report any suspicious movement within their communities.

He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to work closely with security agencies to safeguard lives and property across Borno State.
