Dokubo Urges Peace, Warns Against Impeachment Distraction

The Rivers State Labour Party Chairman, Mrs Hilda Dokubo, has called for peace and stability in the state, urging political actors to prioritize Rivers’ interest over personal ambitions.

Dokubo issued the appeal on Thursday, the 15th of January, 2026, following an INEC stakeholders’ meeting held in Port Harcourt.

She described the recent impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a distraction that could derail governance and development.

According to her, Rivers should concentrate on rebuilding after six months of emergency rule that was marked by instability, hardship, and limited progress.

“The only person who serves a governor an impeachment notice is someone who believes he is above the state.

“I am disturbed and disappointed because Rivers is being dragged back into turmoil just as it is emerging from months of instability,” she said.

Dokubo appealed to political leaders and stakeholders to cease creating distractions and instead focus on initiatives that enhance the lives of Rivers people.

“This is our only home. If there is no peace here, we cannot sleep, work, or keep our children safe. Nobody wants that,” she emphasized.

She also commended four assembly members who reconsidered their position on the impeachment notice, encouraging others to follow their lead.

Dokubo further called for a lasting solution, cautioning against “political solutions” that only deepen the state’s challenges.

“Let us live in peace. Let Governor Fubara do his work and complete it, now that we are beginning to see governance,” she added.
