Ebonyi Tears Down Shrines, Vows Justice Over Gruesome Killings

The Ebonyi State Government has ordered the destruction of all shrines and deities in Amasiri community, Afikpo Local Government Area, following its involvement in a violent clash with neighbouring Okporojo in Edda Local Government Area.

The dispute resulted in several deaths and the destruction of property, with reports indicating that four victims were beheaded and their heads taken away.

Governor Francis Nwifuru, through his Chief Press Secretary Monday Uzor, stated that punitive measures including the sacking of political appointees, dethronement of traditional rulers, imposition of a curfew, and closure of schools will remain in effect until the perpetrators are arrested and the severed heads recovered.

He directed community stakeholders to disclose the locations of all shrines and deities to government and security agencies.

A 19-member committee, headed by the State Commissioner for Border and Conflict Resolution, Prof. Paul Nwobashi, and including the surveyor  general and the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, has been constituted to demarcate the disputed boundary between Amasiri and Okporojo. The curfew on the community remains in force.
