Edo Police Arrest 57-Year-Old Over Alleged Defilement Of Stepdaughter

The Edo State Police Command has arrested 57-year-old Kadiri Edenokun over the alleged repeated defilement of his six-year-old stepdaughter in Auchi, Edo North.

Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, identifying Edenokun as a resident of Jattu, Auchi.

She said the suspect allegedly admitted during interrogation that he committed the offence several times.

The child is receiving medical treatment under the care of the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs, while investigations continue. Edenokun remains in custody and will be prosecuted after the investigation.

The case comes amid rising concern over child sexual abuse in Edo. The state government said in August that more than 70 defilement cases were recorded between January and July 2026, with fathers allegedly responsible for over half of the reported cases.
