The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged troops to remain committed to defending peace, national unity, and the country’s sovereignty.
Speaking through the Commander of 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, during a special Sallah luncheon on Saturday at the Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Sobe, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Gen. Shaibu highlighted the importance of resilience and dedication among frontline soldiers in the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
In a statement released on Sunday, March 22, by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Benin City, the COAS reaffirmed the army’s focus on troop welfare, morale, and enhanced collaboration with other security agencies.
Gen. Shaibu emphasised the soldiers’ role in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and protecting citizens’ lives.
He expressed appreciation for the cooperation and professionalism of sister services and other security and intelligence agencies, noting their contribution to the effectiveness of collective operations.
“This is to urge the troops to remain steadfast in the defence of peace, unity, and national sovereignty. They serve in difficult and often demanding environments, far from the comfort of their homes, yet remain steadfast in loyalty and professionalism.
“Their endurance, sacrifice, and courage represent the true spirit of the Nigerian soldier. We pray for their safety, strength, and success in all ongoing operations, and we look forward to their safe return,” he said.
He added, “The synergy among our services remains vital to sustaining operational success and national stability. Together, through cooperation and shared commitment, we will continue to confront challenges and preserve the peace and unity of our nation.”
Gen. Shaibu also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support, steadfast leadership, and commitment to the welfare, operational efficiency, and development of the military.
He described the President’s guidance as a significant source of motivation for the armed forces in fulfilling their constitutional duties.
