Governor Biodun Oyebanji has officially secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election following a consensus affirmation held on Monday, October 27, at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti.
The event, attended by 885 delegates representing all 16 local government areas, confirmed Oyebanji’s candidacy after the only other cleared aspirant, Mrs Atinuke Omolayo, withdrew voluntarily from the race.
The exercise was overseen by a 10-member committee led by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo serving as deputy chairman and Hon Taiwo Sunmonu as secretary.
During the session, Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, moved a motion to ratify Oyebanji’s nomination, citing the relevant section of the Electoral Act.
Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adeoye Stephen, seconded the motion, describing the decision as a landmark moment for the party.

In celebration, Oyebanji and his wife offered songs of worship, dedicating the victory to God.
Expressing gratitude to party delegates and leaders, he said, “I am honoured and appreciative of this rare privilege which you are giving for the second time.”
The governor hailed the unity displayed by party members, noting that the consensus approach reflected political maturity within the APC.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu and the party’s National Working Committee for their guidance throughout the process.
Former Governor Kayode Fayemi later described the outcome as a sign of unity and stability within the APC, reinforcing Oyebanji’s position as the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
