The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai on Monday, May 18, 2026, raised alarm over his alleged transfer to the Department of State Services after proceedings at the Federal High Court, despite claims that a court order placed him under the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
Speaking outside a DSS facility, his wife, Hasiat, said el-Rufai had spent about 91 days in detention and was repeatedly moved between agencies in alleged breach of court directives.
She said he appeared before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on Monday and was granted bail, with the matter adjourned to 1 p.m.
She alleged he was taken during the break to DSS custody, resisted the move, and insisted on remaining under ICPC custody in line with earlier orders.
“He said he was not a furniture to be moved,” she said.

Hasiat also claimed he was briefly returned to ICPC custody before being moved again after the afternoon session, adding that he later refused to exit a DSS vehicle until returned to ICPC.
She further alleged denial of access to his personal doctors despite a court order allowing medical attention.
El-Rufai’s son, Bello el-Rufai, criticised the bail conditions as overly stringent and questioned the custody arrangements, alleging political interference.
Senator Lawal Adamu called for his immediate release, saying he voluntarily returned from Cairo to face allegations.
Security sources said El-Rufai was returned to ICPC custody at about 5 p.m. on Monday after consultations among parties in the case.
