Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has opened up on his role in the emergence of Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s president.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, El-Rufai explained that despite contributing to Tinubu’s rise, he would not hold back from pointing out where the administration had gone off track.
He dismissed criticisms directed at him for speaking against Tinubu’s government, stressing that he has every right to express his views.
In his words: “Everyone knows that I was one of the founding fathers of APC and everyone knows I made some contributions in bringing Asiwaju to the presidency.
“If Asiwaju’s government has derailed and is not doing what we thought he will do and not siding the interest of Nigerians, I should not criticize him because I contributed in bringing him, is that the logic in Nigeria these days?

“Where does that happen? The purpose of government is to get things done for the progress of the people and the country.
So, even if it’s my son that is the president or governor and is not doing the right thing, I lose the right to disagree or criticize? Is that how Nigeria has gotten? Have we gone that low?
So because when a person details and I contributed in getting him there, I am prohibited from commenting, is that what Nigeria has become?”
