A prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised the Senate over its decision to approve a dual system for the transmission of election results.
It was earlier reported that during an emergency plenary session held on Tuesday, the 10th of February, 2026, lawmakers altered Section 60 of the Electoral Act, granting presiding officers at polling units the authority to electronically upload results to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Results Viewing Portal (IREV).
Under the amended provision, INEC personnel are also permitted to fall back on manual transmission in locations where mobile network services are unavailable.

The Senate’s move came in response to widespread public backlash that followed its initial refusal to approve electronic transmission of results.
Commenting on the development during an interview on Channels TV, on Tuesday, the 10th of February, Okonkwo faulted the lawmakers’ decision, dismissing the outcome of the emergency session as “419.”
