Environmental Breaches: LSWMO Closes Lekki Phase 1 Estate

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has shut down a residential estate situated at No. 96B, Ladipo Omotesho Street, Lekki Phase 1, citing persistent breaches of environmental laws.

The sealing exercise was carried out on Wednesday, the 7th of January, 2026, after the estate reportedly ignored multiple notices issued for non-compliance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law. The agency also accused residents of hindering its officials while carrying out their lawful responsibilities.

Details of the action were disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, the 7th of January, through the LSWMO’s official X account.

In the statement, the agency called on Lagos residents to adopt appropriate wastewater disposal methods and maintain high hygiene standards to safeguard public health and the environment. It further warned that any conduct amounting to environmental nuisance would be met with penalties, including possible legal action.

The LSWMO also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any observed environmental infractions.
