Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has reaffirmed the club’s commitment to Enzo Fernandez, insisting the midfielder remains an important part of his plans despite continued reports linking him with Manchester City.
Fernandez, 25, has attracted interest from City as they seek to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.
However, Chelsea have made it clear to the Argentina international’s representatives that he is not available for transfer this summer.
The club’s position was reinforced after the 14 August deadline for a formal offer passed without City submitting a bid.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Fulham, Alonso said Fernandez remains fully focused on his responsibilities at Stamford Bridge.
“Enzo is a Chelsea player. We are happy with him and he’s getting ready for Monday,” Alonso said.

The Chelsea boss also expressed satisfaction with the midfielder’s approach since returning to the squad, highlighting his commitment during training.
“He has integrated really well since rejoining the group after the World Cup and is training really well.
I see him with a really good attitude and that’s what we want.”
Fernandez has received a mixed response from sections of the Chelsea support during pre-season, but the club’s faith in him was evident when he was given the captain’s armband for the friendly victory over Real Sociedad.
Although City’s interest has kept questions surrounding Fernandez’s future alive, Chelsea’s stance remains that the midfielder will stay at Stamford Bridge.
With the transfer window set to close on 1 September, Fernandez’s situation could continue to attract attention, but Alonso’s latest comments indicate that Chelsea are planning for him to remain central to the team.
