Ex-Speaker Dajoh Loses Brother Amid Political Turmoil in Benue

Former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, is mourning the death of his elder brother, who passed away on Monday in Makurdi, just a day after Dajoh resigned his position as speaker.

Dajoh told reporters at his Makurdi residence that he had lost his brother but expressed gratitude to God despite the family’s grief.

Sympathisers, including political associates, allies, and friends, trooped to his residence to commiserate with him over the tragic development, which has further unsettled the state’s political climate.

Sources in Makurdi said news of the elder Dajoh’s death spread quickly on Monday, with some accounts suggesting he collapsed only a few hours after receiving news of his younger brother’s resignation. However, the precise cause of death had not been confirmed at press time.

Family sources disclosed that the deceased had been deeply worried about the political crisis engulfing the state assembly in recent weeks. The atmosphere has heightened tension in Benue following Sunday’s resignation of Aondona Dajoh, which cleared the way for Alfred Berger to emerge as the new speaker.

The passing of the former speaker’s brother has cast a shadow of mourning over the Dajoh family and added another dimension to the unfolding political drama in the state.
