The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reduced the cargo handling charge at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to N15 per kilogram, following negotiations with freight operators and clearing agents.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
The revision comes after pushback against an earlier proposal to raise the fee from N7 to N20 per kilogram.
The compromise rate of N15/kg is expected to ease operational costs for freight forwarders, exporters, airlines and logistics companies operating through Lagos, Nigeria’s busiest air cargo hub.

Industry insiders say the new rate could stabilize cargo pricing, improve throughput and support smoother trade flows at the airport, which handles the bulk of the country’s international air freight.
FAAN described the move as part of broader reforms to streamline cargo operations, enhance revenue management, modernise handling infrastructure and reduce delays at airport terminals.
The authority continues to prioritise initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and ease of doing business in the aviation sector.
