Fans Storm Pitch After Kwara United, Rivers United 1–1 Draw

Tensions boiled over on Sunday as supporters of Kwara United invaded the pitch following a 1–1 draw with Rivers United in a heated Nigeria Premier League encounter.

The incident occurred moments after the final whistle, with home fans encroaching onto the field in protest against the referee’s decisions, which they believed influenced the outcome of the match.

Stewards and security personnel were forced to intervene to restore calm and escort match officials to safety.

Eyewitnesses said the atmosphere had grown tense in the closing stages, as several contentious calls sparked anger among the home supporters.

Although no serious injuries were immediately reported, the disruption briefly halted post-match activities.

The Nigeria Premier League is expected to review the incident, with possible sanctions looming for crowd misconduct.

League authorities have repeatedly warned clubs and supporters about maintaining discipline, stressing that such scenes damage the image of Nigerian football.

Both teams had shared the spoils after a tightly contested game, but the dramatic scenes after full-time overshadowed what was otherwise an intense league fixture.
