The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday in observance of this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, which commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on Friday through a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, urging citizens to use the occasion to reflect on the values and teachings associated with the life of the Prophet.
According to the minister, Eid ul Mawlid provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on virtues such as compassion, humility, service and concern for others.
He said these values remained particularly important to Nigeria at a time when the country needed greater unity and peaceful coexistence.
“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.
Tunji-Ojo encouraged Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation, to embrace these principles and promote peaceful relationships within their communities.
