FG Engages Banks On Digital Revenue Platform To Boost Transparency

The Federal Government has intensified its drive to improve revenue generation and block financial leakages by working more closely with the banking sector on a new digital initiative known as the Revenue Optimisation Assurance Platform (RevOp).

The platform, designed to enhance transparency and accountability in public finance, was highlighted at a sensitisation workshop held on Friday in Abuja by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele—represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Mohammed Danjuma—explained that RevOp was introduced to modernise how government revenue is collected across federal institutions.

He described the system as a unified digital solution that allows Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to generate, collect, track, and report revenue in real time, replacing long-standing manual and fragmented processes that have hindered efficiency.

“RevOp serves as a critical tool in the government’s drive to improve revenue administration, reduce leakages, and enhance public sector accountability,” he said.

While noting the progress made since the platform was introduced, he acknowledged that some implementation challenges still persist, especially within banks and among frontline staff handling government transactions.

He pointed out that several banking officers are yet to fully grasp the structure, objectives, and operational procedures of the platform, a gap that has affected service delivery and user experience.

“These challenges, though operational in nature, have significant impacts on the overall customer experience and effectiveness of the initiative. This is precisely why we are here today,” he said.

He further emphasised that the effectiveness of RevOp depends heavily on cooperation between government institutions and financial service providers, stressing that banks are expected to go beyond payment collection to ensuring smooth and accessible revenue processes.

According to him, the sensitisation workshop was organised to improve understanding of the platform, resolve operational concerns, and strengthen communication between the implementation team and financial institutions.

“Today’s sensitisation session has, therefore, been organised to deepen understanding of the platform, clarify operational processes, address concerns, and establish stronger communication channels between the project team and participating financial institutions.

“We expect that the knowledge shared here will cascade throughout your respective organizations, especially to branch operations, customer service personnel, and tellers who interact directly with customers on a daily basis,” he added.

He assured stakeholders that the government remains committed to working with banks and other partners to resolve challenges and improve the overall effectiveness of the system.

In her remarks, the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, represented by her Chief of Staff, Felix Ogundairo, said the platform was adopted as a strategic tool for improving revenue collection, monitoring, reconciliation, and reporting.

She explained that the system would enhance visibility over government earnings, strengthen compliance, eliminate leakages, and support more data-driven financial decisions.

“This engagement, therefore, provides an opportunity for us to discuss implementation challenges, align expectations, clarify operational issues, and strengthen the partnership necessary for the success of the application,” she said.

Also speaking, the Director of Revenue and Investment at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Adebayo Adewale, revealed that over 70 per cent of federal government-owned entities have already been integrated into RevOp.

He explained that the platform, managed by the OAGF, was developed to streamline revenue collection and remove operational silos across government agencies.

“Today’s sensitization is aimed at bringing to your knowledge that RevOP generates the bill and collects federal government revenue using the existing licensed payment solution system providers and commercial banks nationwide.

“This is very critical because people shall be presenting REVOP bill to commercial banks for payment, and we expect prompt collection,” he said.

The Product Manager of RevOp, Idris Dosunmu, also noted that the platform integrates billing, payment, and settlement processes into a single digital framework, ensuring full transparency from invoice generation to final remittance into government accounts.

“This will ensure that every penny due to the federal government goes into the coffers of the government,” Dosunmu said.

RevOp is part of the Federal Government’s broader public financial management reforms aimed at boosting revenue, reducing leakages, and improving transparency across MDAs.

The initiative, approved by the Federal Executive Council, allows for real-time monitoring and reconciliation of government finances while integrating with existing digital financial systems.

Officials also disclosed that 31 MDAs have already been onboarded onto the platform, with further expansion planned as the government pushes for full digital accountability and improved non-oil revenue generation.
