Fresh Attacks Shake Plateau Hours After Tinubu Visit

Fresh violence has once again struck communities in Plateau State, raising alarm just a day after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Jos to console victims of earlier attacks and pledge enhanced security measures.

In the early hours of Friday, April 3, 2026, suspected assailants from Rankum (Mahanga) attacked Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area, killing 51-year-old Dalyop Betobeje around 6:56 a.m.

Community leaders condemned the assault as a deliberate challenge to ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts.

Earlier, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, gunmen believed to be herders raided Ban village, Heipang District, Bassa Local Government Area, killing secondary school student Gloria Godwin, injuring several others, and destroying property, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) reported.

Security agencies confirmed investigations are underway, with the Nigeria Police Force actively pursuing the attackers to bring them to justice.

In a statement, the BYM described the attacks as “brutal and senseless” and called for thorough investigations and prosecution of the perpetrators.

Jacob Pam Chall, BYM chairman in Heipang District, urged residents to remain calm, strengthen community vigilance, and cooperate with security operatives.

President Tinubu, during his visit to Jos on Thursday, April 2, 2026, reassured residents and victims of the federal government’s commitment to ending the cycle of violence.

“This experience will not repeat itself,” he said, while commiserating with affected families.

The renewed attacks in Riyom and Heipang underscore the fragile security situation in rural Plateau communities and highlight the urgent need for sustained federal and state intervention to protect residents and restore lasting peace.
