Fubara Withdraws From Rivers APC Governorship Primary

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state, saying the decision was driven by conviction and the need to preserve peace and unity.

Fubara announced his withdrawal in a personally signed statement issued on Wednesday, May 20, after what he described as deep reflection and consultations with family, friends, and associates.

According to him, stepping aside was a deliberate sacrifice aimed at ensuring stability in Rivers State and allowing the state to move forward in harmony.

“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries,” he said.

He added that his decision should not be misconstrued as weakness or surrender.

“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside from participating in the upcoming Rivers State gubernatorial election not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” Fubara stated.

The governor further pledged continued commitment to the people of Rivers State, insisting that he remains focused on serving out his tenure.

He also declared support for whoever eventually emerges as the APC’s governorship candidate in the state.
