Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has appealed to Nigerians to rekindle their love for the country and deepen their faith as vital steps toward building a more united and resilient nation.
During a Holy Mass held at the Government House Chapel in Makurdi on Sunday, November 2, Alia reminded citizens that genuine progress depends on shared responsibility, optimism, and commitment to national ideals.
He urged Nigerians to rise above divisions and work together for the collective good.
The governor said, “Nigeria belongs to all of us. We must continue to pray for our country, believe in her potential, and contribute our quota to her growth. National development is a collective task that requires our unity, optimism, and hard work.”

According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Alia used the service to offer prayers for the souls of departed citizens, including members of the Armed Forces who lost their lives in the line of duty.
He also prayed for former leaders and all Nigerians striving to make the country better.
Kula added that the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, moral revival, and social development, pledging continued implementation of policies that will enhance the welfare of Benue residents and contribute to national progress.
Governor Alia further urged Nigerians of all faiths and regions to remain prayerful and united, insisting that faith and patriotism must form the foundation of a stable and prosperous Nigeria.
He emphasised that “acts or utterances that divide the country only weaken the bonds of nationhood,” calling instead for peace, mutual understanding, and unwavering hope in Nigeria’s future.
