Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has showered praise on the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, applauding his pivotal role in strengthening peace and security across the state during his time in office.
The governor delivered the commendation on Wednesday, the 7th of January, 2026, in Birnin Kebbi at a colourful send-off ceremony organised to honour the retiring police chief, whose exit marked the end of a distinguished career in law enforcement.
Sani bowed out of the Nigeria Police Force after 34 years of dedicated service, having reached the mandatory retirement age of 60. During the ceremony, Governor Idris described him as a disciplined, professional and deeply committed officer who served as the 37th Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State.
According to the governor, Kebbi recorded notable improvements in security under Sani’s leadership, driven by strengthened crime prevention strategies, intelligence-led policing, and closer collaboration among security agencies operating in the state.
He further noted that the harmonious working relationship between the state government and security agencies during Sani’s tenure ensured swift responses to security threats and helped sustain relative peace across Kebbi State.
Represented at the event by the Commissioner for Internal Security, Aliyu Halilu-Wasagu, Governor Idris expressed appreciation for the outgoing CP’s loyalty, dedication and selfless service, stressing that his efforts in safeguarding lives and property would remain etched in the memory of the people of the state.
In his response, Bello Sani expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Federal Government, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for giving him the opportunity to serve the nation.

He also thanked the Kebbi State Government for its consistent support, noting that the administration’s commitment to security reforms and the provision of critical infrastructure significantly enhanced policing effectiveness and boosted public confidence.
Sani did not fail to acknowledge the officers and men of the Kebbi State Police Command, sister security agencies, and other key stakeholders, praising their cooperation and teamwork throughout his tenure.
The ceremony attracted a wide array of dignitaries, including top government officials, heads of security agencies, members of the judiciary, traditional rulers and other stakeholders, all of whom gathered to celebrate the career and service of the retired police chief.
