Hands Off Osun Politics, PDP Reps Warn Makinde

The Osun State Peoples Democratic Party caucus in the House of Representatives has cautioned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to “stay away from Osun affairs,” rejecting the governorship primary that produced Adebayo Adedamola as the PDP candidate for the 2026 election.

In a statement signed on Wednesday by six members of the caucus—Bamidele Salam, Mudashiru Alani, Akanni Ademola, Adewale Adebayo, Adetunji Olusoji and Oladebo Omoleye—the lawmakers described Tuesday’s primary as fraudulent and unconstitutional, alleging it was conducted “with thugs and political jobbers” allegedly imported from Ibadan.

The lawmakers accused Makinde of attempting to destabilise Osun for political gain, calling him “a treacherous character whose desperation for regional political influence has pushed him into untoward conduct.”

“It is laughable that the Oyo State governor does not understand, or chooses to ignore, the fact that the PDP has laid down procedures for the conduct of primaries, which include elections of ward ad-hoc delegates and national delegates, without which no valid primaries can be conducted,” the statement read.

They warned that anyone parading themselves as the PDP candidate from the purported exercise would be guilty of “criminal impersonation” and provoking peace-loving party members in the state. The caucus also accused Makinde of exporting “impunity, recklessness and sham to Osun State,” insisting that Osun already has “a decent sitting governor who carries everyone along.”

The lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and urged all aspirants for the 2026 governorship election to “play by the rules.” They also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to disregard the purported primary results and abide strictly by the PDP constitution.

The dispute stems from a lingering internal leadership crisis at the national level of the PDP, where factions aligned with different power blocs—including a group associated with Makinde and a rival camp loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike—have paralysed the party’s national organs. The suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers have disrupted the conduct of congresses and primaries across several states, including Osun.

The crisis worsened on November 4, 2025, when Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke resigned from the PDP, citing the unresolved national leadership tussle.
