‘PDP No Longer Viable’ — Jigawa Leaders Tell Lamido to Leave

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State have publicly advised their leader, former Governor Sule Lamido, to consider abandoning the party and defecting to another political platform. This call comes amid what the group described as a deepening and unresolved internal crisis plaguing the national PDP structure.

The advice was contained in a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting at the PDP state secretariat and signed by the group’s chairman, Hon. Ali Idris Diginsa.

The forum expressed profound concern over the party’s failure to resolve long-standing disputes, alleging that the national leadership had effectively sidelined Lamido and prevented him from contesting for the position of national chairman for reasons known only to them.

The stakeholders argued that the national party is no longer a credible platform, citing recent public clashes as evidence of its deep-seated issues:

“What is happening in the party recently is exposing the party’s weaknesses and shame- the recent confrontation between Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja was shameful and embarrassing.”

The group concluded that persistent division, distrust, and unending rancour among members have rendered the PDP an unviable platform:

“The PDP is no longer a formidable national platform due to persistent divisions, distrust and unending rancour among its members,” the forum stated.

Despite their harsh criticism of the party, the chairmen reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to Sule Lamido, promising total support regardless of his next decision.

They highlighted Lamido’s long-standing dedication to the party, noting his historical significance as the only surviving member of the historic G9 and G18 groups who has never once abandoned the PDP, even during the peak of the “Buhari political wave” in the North.

The stakeholders issued a direct plea for him to seek a new political home: “We urge our leader to seek a viable political platform that would allow his followers to pursue the dream of a greater Jigawa and Nigeria,” the group stated.
