Hunter Arrested for Killing Woman He Mistook for Monkey in Cross River

A tragic incident has occurred in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, where a hunter allegedly shot and killed a woman he mistook for a monkey while hunting in a forest.

The incident occurred on Monday in Basam Osokom community when the hunter, identified as Otu Goodness Kanang, reportedly fired at what he thought was a monkey perched on a tree.

According to intelligence sources quoted by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on Monday, Kanang later heard a human cry and, upon checking, discovered that he had fatally shot a woman identified simply as Victoria, whose other names were yet to be confirmed.

Community members immediately alerted authorities, and detectives, assisted by local youths, recovered the woman’s body and moved it to the residence of a local chief in Bansam for further action.

The suspect has since been arrested and taken into custody, while police have launched a full investigation into the incident.

According to the Cross River State Police Command, normalcy has been restored to the area, and residents have been urged to remain calm as the investigation continues.
