I Never Called for Mutfwang’s Resignation’, Ex-Gov Jang Fires Back

Former Plateau State Governor and senator, Jonah Jang, has dismissed reports claiming he asked Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

The clarification was made in a statement issued on Monday, January 12, in Jos by Clinton Garuba, Jang’s media consultant, who said the reports being circulated were misleading and wrongly attributed to the former governor.

“The attention of Sen. Jonah David Jang has been drawn to a misleading report in some print and online media outlets.

“The report attempts to portray him as calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to resign following his defection from the PDP to the APC,” the statement read.

Garuba said Jang’s comments at the PDP stakeholders’ meeting had been taken out of context and misrepresented.

“For clarity, Jang was quoted out of context. At no time during the PDP stakeholders’ meeting did he call for Mutfwang’s resignation.

“Rather, he criticised politicians for leaving their parties to join others,” Garuba added.

The media aide also called on the people of Plateau State to ignore the reports and remain supportive of Governor Mutfwang as he continues in office.

According to Garuba, the rebuttal was necessary after reports emerged on Sunday suggesting that Jang had urged the governor to step down and seek a fresh mandate after leaving the PDP during a stakeholders’ meeting held over the weekend.
