Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has engaged Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike in a light-hearted exchange following his uncle Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Davido was captured in a viral video repeatedly telling Wike, “I won. I beat you guys,” during a visit by the Osun State governor to the minister in Abuja on Thursday.
The video, shared on Instagram by @OfficialPrinceNwauzor on Friday, showed Davido dressed in brown traditional attire standing before Wike, who was seated in a white shirt.
“I won! I beat you,” Davido said, as Wike smiled and disputed the claim.
“No, no,” the minister responded.
“You beat us?” Wike asked at one point, prompting Davido to repeat, “I beat you.”
The exchange was accompanied by laughter from people in the room, with some voices heard saying, “I beg o.”
The playful encounter ended with Davido prostrating before Wike before embracing the minister, drawing cheers and applause from those present.
The interaction has been widely linked to the outcome of the Osun governorship election, in which Adeleke secured a second term in office.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission with 511,067 votes.
He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

David was one of the most vocal supporters of his uncle during the election campaign and repeatedly criticised the APC and the Federal Government over what he described as the use of federal might and disregard for the rule of law.
The singer had also publicly declared that he would never join the APC and wrote to former United States President Donald Trump, urging him to pay attention to the Osun election amid concerns over possible violence and disruption.
Following the election, however, Wike said Adeleke’s victory was evidence that President Bola Tinubu allowed the electoral process to remain free and fair.
The minister dismissed allegations that the Federal Government manipulated the election, arguing that the President’s decision to allow the democratic process to take its course contributed to the outcome.
“The President called him… congratulating him (Adeleke). What does it tell you? If Tinubu did not allow a free and fair election, would they have won? No!” Wike said.
Wike added that claims about the influence of federal power in the election were unfounded, citing his own political experience.
Meanwhile, Adeleke visited Wike in Abuja as part of consultations following his re-election. He had earlier met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
A photograph shared by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, also showed the minister and the governor holding Adeleke’s certificate of return.
The video of Davido and Wike has since generated mixed reactions online, with some users amused by the singer’s playful exchange with the minister, while others questioned his cordial interaction with a politician whose political camp he had strongly opposed during the election campaign.
